About

Who are the Lions?

Lions Clubs International-LCI-is the largest non-governmental service organization in the world.  Our over 1.4 million members are dedicated to making our local communities-and the World-a better place. There are five major service focus areas for Lions Worldwide-Vision, Hunger, Diabetes, Environment and Pediatric Cancer-but we meet humanitarian needs of any kind.  We serve where we live-our local communities.

Our motto is simple: We Serve.

Lions have been serving in the state of Massachusetts since 1922. The Lions of District 33K-comprising the areas of metro-Boston and its suburbs-continue to live this motto with pride and enthusiasm.

What is the Eyemobile?

The current District 33K Eyemobile is a $250,000 vehicle that provides mobile health and vision screenings. Since its first inception in 1972 33K Lions have provided well over 30,000 FREE eye and health screenings.  Services provided include vision-acuity, glaucoma and retinal imaging-blood pressure and hearing screenings.  Those who fail the screenings/have symptoms of eye or health disease are referred to their health providers for follow up.

The services of the Eymobile are provided free thanks to the ongoing generous support of our District 33K Clubs, who also staff the vehicle with trained volunteers and drivers. In some cases, Clubs will also fund follow up services such as glasses, for those in need.

Lions Eyemobile – Free Health Screenings

Since its inception, the Eyemobile has provided a variety of health screenings to well over 25,000 children and adults. Services include vision, hearing, and blood pressure screenings on a gratis basis.

The Eyemobile is used at local health fairs, school functions, parades, county fairs, community functions and other Lion sponsored activities. Emphasis is directed towards the elderly, African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans and children; most are high-risk groups for eye related diseases.

In many cases the local Lions clubs fund the next level of treatment, or help find low cost treatment when screenings indicate possible health problems.
